Human relaxin-2: what serelaxin clinical trials found

Human relaxin-2 is a hormone studied through recombinant serelaxin preparations in cardiovascular and other disease settings. Early promising signals were not consistently confirmed in larger clinical trials. A balanced account should include that development history rather than present vascular mechanisms as proof of heart protection.

Identity and formulation

Serelaxin is a specified recombinant human relaxin-2 preparation. Its hospital infusion studies do not validate an uncharacterized powder or a different relaxin-family peptide.

A protein level measured in blood, a vascular response and a clinical disease outcome are different evidence types. None should be substituted for another.

What the studies show

The first large acute-heart-failure trial showed mixed results: one primary breathlessness measure improved, while another did not. The substantially larger confirmatory trial did not meet either of its main clinical endpoints. A small portal-pressure trial was also neutral on its main measurement.

Selected directly relevant studies and their limits
Study and design Finding What it does not establish
RELAX-AHF initial trial

Randomized placebo-controlled trial in hospitalized acute heart failure

Reading scope: PubMed abstract

One breathlessness measure improved; other major outcomes did not show the same pattern, while an additional mortality endpoint generated interest. A favorable additional endpoint required confirmation rather than immediate acceptance as proven survival benefit.
RELAX-AHF-2 confirmatory trial

Randomized placebo-controlled study with 6,545 analyzed patients

Reading scope: PubMed abstract

Serelaxin did not significantly reduce cardiovascular death at 180 days or worsening heart failure at five days. The clinical result does not support a general survival or heart-protection claim.
STOPP portal-pressure trial

Small randomized phase 2 study in cirrhosis

Reading scope: PubMed abstract

The study found no significant change in its portal-pressure endpoint. The small sample and early termination limit precision; it did not establish clinical benefit.

For the differences between a mechanism, a biomarker and a clinical outcome, see the evidence-reading guide.

How to interpret the findings

A large confirmatory trial should change how an earlier signal is described. Repeating only the first favorable finding would leave readers with an outdated and unbalanced conclusion.

Biomarkers can help investigate mechanisms even when a clinical outcome is neutral. Improvement in a marker should therefore be reported as a marker result, not as proof that patients lived longer or avoided hospitalization.

The disease setting matters. Studies in hospitalized heart-failure patients and cirrhosis cannot establish benefits for exercise recovery, fat loss or healthy aging. Those are different clinical questions.

Safety context

The selected trials used monitored investigational infusions in defined patients. Their adverse-event observations do not establish safety for unsupervised use or for a different preparation.

Study exposure and units

The published hospital infusions are study methods, not a personal regimen. They cannot be transferred to another route or product by a mass conversion.

A biomarker concentration or a response in rat tissue should not be entered into a human-dose calculator as if it described a validated treatment amount.

Match any reported amount or concentration to the exact material, route, population and duration in the original experiment. Read the guide to mass, volume and concentration for the meaning of common units. A calculation cannot establish an appropriate treatment or validate an untested formulation.

Product identity and report checks

Confirm that the material is human relaxin-2 and establish its recombinant identity and functional activity. A reference to serelaxin literature cannot authenticate a separate product.

Keep the clinical evidence and the supplier evidence separate. Use the report-verification steps to check the issuer and the batch questions to connect a tested sample with the product offered. Compare prices using the delivered-cost method rather than an isolated discount or purity percentage.

Peptide Serum operates a store as well as this research library. The supplier directory contains imported seller information; a listing is not laboratory certification. Read how this library is prepared and evaluate the documentation for the exact lot offered. A seller rating does not establish clinical safety or effectiveness.

Common questions

Was serelaxin’s early survival signal confirmed?

The larger RELAX-AHF-2 trial did not show a significant reduction in cardiovascular death on its primary analysis. That result needs to appear alongside the earlier signal.

Do vascular effects prove a clinical benefit?

No. A mechanism or physiological response needs confirmation in patient-relevant outcomes and a suitable trial.

How to attribute and preserve the context
  1. Place a visible Peptide Serum citation beside the relevant claim, table or passage; do not substitute a general homepage link.
  2. Identify what you reused, and distinguish our compilation or interpretation from an original study or supplier statement.
  3. Keep links and credit to the primary studies, trial registries, supplier listings and other original sources supporting the material.
  4. For price comparisons, preserve currency, units, vial or pack size, sample count, observation dates, exchange-rate date and exclusions.
  5. Keep provisional labels, methodological limits and evidence caveats. A price comparison does not establish equivalent product quality.
